More about the artist
Debby’s works are characterized by rich textures, bold colors, and an underlying sense of joy and wonder…
Since moving to Rhode Island, Debby discovered her love for ceramics, taking classes locally at the Jamestown Art Center. She enjoys ceramics hand-building in three dimensions, crafting whimsical and magical fairy house designs that reflect her deep connection to nature. Her first fairy house was inspired by a close friend with a shared passion for gardening. She also draws upon conversations with her grandchildren about where fairies might live.
Nature’s details, such as the nook of a tree or the texture of a leaf, ignite her imagination and bring her enchanted visions to life. She begins most fairy house designs with a sketch that helps with discovery about underlying structure needs for the sculptures before adding in details – then she sets out and builds.
Debby finds the clay will often speak to her during the creative process and will shift the design in a different direction. Her fairy house sculptures are often characterized by rich textures, bold colors, and an underlying sense of joy and wonder, making each piece a magical escape into a world of fairies and nature’s beauty
In addition to her passion for ceramics and art, Debby enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, and cherishing moments with her family and friends.
